Dear Parents:
We just wanted to touch base with you in regards to two committees that we need parental support for; Friends of DVSS and School Council. Parents that have provided support for many years have seen their children through the system so we are in great need of new members to help support our remaining members.
Friends of DVSS - is our fundraising committee and we meet once a month on Tuesdays - the fundraising component takes up little time investment and is primarily limited to the running of a two day casino in Calgary once every two or more years. We generally bring in between $40,000 to $50,000 for two days of volunteering. This committee, with fundraising and grant applications, has contributed at least $650,000 to the school with items like - bleachers, score clocks, glass backboards, weight room equipment, Chromebooks, projection screens, tennis courts, and the list goes on and on.
Executive positions are: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
School Council - this is our advisory committee to the DVSS administration and we meet directly after the Friends of DVSS meetings. This group is not involved in any fundraising. It consists of parents, a community member, student representative, and administration. It’s function is to provide input and suggestions with respect to school activities and operations. This committee has contributed to changes in the Student Handbook, Junior & Senior High Awards, Graduation, and various programs within the school and once again the list goes on and on. It is not a platform for politics or staff gripes. It is solely a positive force to enhance educational opportunities for Drumheller youth.
Executive positions are: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
In conversation with the Superintendent, he has directed us to host these meetings virtually until the COVID restrictions have been lifted. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 7:00 pm for Friends of DVSS and 7:15 pm for the School Council. We will be hosting our meetings using Google Meet. You may use a computer with a camera and mic, selecting the following link will open a browser window and allow you to join the meeting. Additionally, there are apps you can use on your devices. Please ensure your mic is muted until you need to speak as background noise can be very distracting and make for a difficult meeting.
