Drumheller Valley Secondary School Students Love Solving Problems

Students of mathematics at Drumheller Valley Secondary School (D.V.S.S.) enjoy the use of logical reasoning to solve problems and puzzles.
Jigsaw puzzles are a traditional pastime which encourages growth in a number of areas.
Our students are encouraged to develop spatial sense and the ability to recognize and communicate patterns. More specifically, Math 20 students solve mechanical and logical puzzles in order to use inductive and deductive reasoning in a way that is engaging and powerful.
D.V.S.S. students solve problems and communicate and reason mathematically, in a variety of ways throughout the school year. As stated in the Provincial mathematics program of studies, our teachers “... use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies help build upon the diverse knowledge, cultures, communication styles, skills, attitudes, experiences and learning styles of students.”
