World War II at 80
Students and staff of DVSS, along with visitors to our school, recently commemorated Remembrance Day with a recollection of the Second World War and Canada's role in this conflict. It came in the wake of two key anniversaries: the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings (i.e. D-Day), and the 80th anniversary of the war's outbreak in Europe.
World War II changed Canada profoundly and irreversibly, and the conflict's lasting legacies continue to reverberate around the world. It was - and is - a fitting act of remembrance to recall this conflict that, as more veterans depart, is in danger of being forgotten. Lest we forget.
