DVSS Student Earns Loran Scholarship

Drumheller Valley Secondary School (DVSS) student Jessica Francis has been awarded the Loran Scholarship - which is valued at $100,000 and includes funding, internship and mentorship opportunities. 

Jessica has been in attendance at DVSS since her grade 7 year. She has always been a strong academic student and has been involved with the FOR Club, Students’ Council, and the DVSS Curling Team. In grade 10 Jessica spent five months studying in Japan.

Out of 4500 applicants Jessica was shortlisted to 84 students who were flown to Toronto for interviews. Interviews lasted two days with each student interviewed six times by six different teams, each interview was 15 minutes long.

Jessica was one of 32 students who received the Loran Awards.  Students can choose from 25 partnering universities and each summer Jessica will also have an internship in different career sectors.

Congratulations to Jessica on receiving the award and her outstanding representation of her family, the community of Drumheller, DVSS and Golden Hills School Division.
